The project is sponsored by Department of Tribal Welfare, Government of Karnataka under the Special Central assistance for scheduled tribes to be implemented by BIRD-K.

Project Duration

The will be implemented in 6 years from 2007 to 2013.

Programme Coverage and Outlay Programme period

The programme activities will be initially implemented over a 6-year period. The programme will be initiated in clusters of approximately 1000 families. As the programme progresses new clusters will be initiated in all the districts. Out of the total families to be covered over the project implementation period, 6400 will be covered under"WADI" The Tree Based Farming System for Improved Agriculture and the remaining 1600 families will be covered under non land based activities including induction of dairy cows, sheep, goats, petty business, etc. The participants for the land-based activities will be inducted in four batches @ 1600 per batch in four years and non land-based will be covered in three years. 

About the location

The programme will be taken up for implementation in eight districts of Karnataka covering 8000 families. These families will be covered one cluster in adjoining taluka.

Financial outlay

The total financial outlay for the programme for 8000 families stands at Rs. 27, 07, 22,072/-. The funds will be released by the Government and routed through the Department of Tribal Welfare to the Programme Executing Agency (BIRD-K) on submission of quarterly six monthly reports within the stipulated period as mentioned in the implementation agreement.
